Disclaimer: I will not be able to disclose everything but whatever I will, would be based on a true incident.
I don’t know why I am writing this. I do not feel like writing something. It is very difficult to recall words and frame sentences, still I want to write something. Something is missing somewhere. The holidays so far have been great with Laptop, TV and Non Veg being a part of my daily diet. The winter holidays are about to end and very soon we all will be together at the bajhol campus. We are in the final semester of our course and soon would be bidding goodbye to each other. The question is what we would carry with us while entering the insane world and incise throat competition. I was in no mood to do an MBA but somehow ended doing it. May be god has something good in store for me. In 2009 the whole world was glowing in the heat of Copenhagen summit. Go green had become like a marketing campaign. Then one day came the advertisement of Shoolini University MBA program on the last page of Education Times, a Monday supplement with TOI. After lots of telephonic conversation with admission cell I decided to give the place a visit. Then it was already October and I knew it was very difficult to get an admission in MBA at that point of time. No matter I had good percentile in CAT and MAT supported With a work experience of more than one year I was sure of getting admission in any good college in the NCR region. However, I did not wanted to do a regular MBA such as Finance, IT, HR etc. I applied to Shoolini Universiy knowing what I wanted to study, Environmental Management. The first day or rather the first step I took at Solan by pass, after stepping down from the bus will always remain in my mind. It was around 7 am and the place was not so active. I felt a load on my heart and decided to go back immediately. I knew coming from Delhi it would not be easy to adapt to this place. I can’t explain but it was an unusual feeling. A fellow passenger helped me find the admission office. After so many ifs and buts I thought of joining the course as I knew it was already late. And I was being enrolled for a course of my choice, which I knew will be fruitful in the coming years. Doing my graduation from Uttar Pradesh, the expectations from Hostel were different but to my surprise it was not what I thought. It was really fun to study here and early days were full of joy and excitement. Going for trekking on nearby hills at 2 in the night has been an enthralling experience. The people here genuinely cared about me. The enormous amount of love and respect which I received from my batchmates and juniors in the hostel, like Paramjeet Singh and Gulshan of B Tech is something I would really miss. Talking about campus I have seen first Director in my life who was available all the time. He knew everyone by first name and provided all the help and support you need. We had a small class of 21 so it provided us more opportunities to get to know our professors and fellow students. The very first day Nadda sir, bestowed his knowledge upon us through a case study. It was really a scintillating session and to my delight what a start to my MBA.
I love my college and may be I have more reasons than others to be proud of it. Today when I sit back I am engraved with mixed emotions, with memories of first year hostel life. To everyone astonishment I was also the Head boy of the University Hostel. My second semester in college will by far remain the most memorable one. It was the time when I actually felt good about myself. Kuldeep Rojhe sir created a team to work on the Internet marketing of our college. The prime task was to create awareness through discussion boards. It was really fun and enormous amount of learning. It immensely helped me improve my writing skills. Vikas Dixit sir, Anuragini Mam and Nisha mam helped me carve my artistic skills by giving me an opportunity to design a brochure for my department and create advertisement for the college to be published in the MAT brochure. I still remember at that time Nadda sir(Director, School of Business Management) was not well and we all were missing him a lot and praying heartily for his well being. Second semester also passed well but with a huge reduction in my academic percentage. I hope it does not happen in 3rd Semester results and I evolve with flying colours. Third sem embarked the launch of two new projects, one the college newsletter and second a video channel. The news letter is named The LAMPS and video team named themselves Wide Angle.
I would always extol the virtues of learning I gained through being team leader for newsletter and part of the Internet marketing team.”Thank You Kuldeep Sir.” The Newsletter taught me more about journalism, people, ethics, doing well, messing up, meeting deadlines, having too much to do, completing projects, managing stress etc etc. The university life has been vibrant and diverse. I know Nadda sir and the professors of School of Business Management are working hard to make it a top-ranked institution, and its location among the sylvan splendor of Himalayas provides endless opportunity for a neat and clean research environment. I do not know why but I am not so relieved of my accomplishments as a MBA student. I feel I have to do a lot more. I realize when I wake up every morning I could choose to be depressed or I could choose to be happy (this is not easy) Everyday I have a choice. Currently I am busy with my project and somewhere deep in the conscience of my mind, I would like to give it the best shot possible. I really do not know how to rate my knowledge and personal growth during this short but exciting 2 years of time. I really can’t wait to go back to NCR and start over again. Because that is the place where I belong to and after all Noida is my favorite city. I have incredible respect and admiration for my teachers at Shoolini University and I can’t believe I’m almost done with college. I don’t know how to feel about it. They say the world is full of plethora of opportunities for those who dare. Let’s see what life has in store for me. Would like to end here with a small message – The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected. We all lose friends . . . we lose them in death, to distance and over time. But even though they may be lost, hope is not. The key is to keep them in your heart, and when the time is right, you can pick up the friendship right where you left off. Even the lost find their way home when you leave the light on. The things we truly love stay with us always, locked in our hearts as long as life remains.

How do you feel when you see yourself in Mirror?. How do you feel between crowd?. How do you feel seeing others Happy? Do you think you are filled with positivity or you always remain engraved with negative thoughts? If you do not feel good about your looks and actions, it means you have low self confidence and you are suffering with negative personality disorder.

To remain positive means – treating yourself with respect, loving oneself, seeing goodness in all our endeavors. Teenage is an emotional phase due to regular change in hormones. You see things differently while you are a teenager, this behavior slowly changes as you grow old and mature. Climate also plays a major role in behavioral disturbances. Scientists have revealed that neurotransmitters such as serotonin and melatonin which control our mood are directly dependent on sunlight. Avoiding sun for long may result in decreased level of serotonin and melatonin. Studies have also revealed that decreasing sunlight results in dysfunction of scandium rhythm which controls our internal biological cycle. Malfunction of this biological clock is known as seasonal effective disorder.

This does not means that mood swings is a phenomenon only among teenagers, it happens with adults as well. If our hormones don’t get released properly then our mind and body feel constrained and pessimism starts to make its home within us. Actually we as kids are never taught how to deal with emotions. There is no formal training either in schools or at adult level as to how to release our emotions. Negative approach towards life not only affects children but also impacts their parents. Frustration, Anxiety, Humiliation, Anger etc are common emotions experienced by a teenager. One could always understand and control these emotions to remove negativity from his thoughts and life.

Next step is bit difficult but could be achieved with practice. Firstly you will have to forgive each aspect of your surroundings due to which you had experienced negative emotions. Remaining engraved with anger is harmful for you not for others. To move forward you will even have to forgive yourself for your past actions. You will have to let go that time when you were wrong, you committed mistakes, you were humiliated or even you have been a bad person involved in illegal activities. You will have to forgive yourself and forget all these. Once you are able to accomplish this, look towards the sky and you will find that a positive sun is smiling towards you crashing those negative clouds. Talk with yourselves and say you are always right. You will have to search good qualities of yours such as creativity, love towards nature, intelligence, humour, spirit, mercifulness, your strength, any talent skill etc.

Pause for a while and appreciate that quality of yours. Believe in yourself and accept that you are good. Purchase different colour balloons, blow them and let them fly. This will increase your self confidence and will help in achieving better emotional balance.

Blaming yourself for all wrongs.

Underestimating yourself.

Getting attracted towards people with negative feelings.

Constantly changing your place.

Trying to avoid people.

Trying to remain away from crowd filled places.

Never get embarrassed for any of your deficiency.

Keep your mind informed during mood swings.

Take help from others, share your feelings.

Always Smile

Never compare yourself with others.

Appreciate yourself.

In India low self esteem is a common observable fact seen in teenagers which actually starts from their family. Parents usually start comparing you with others in regard to you marks. Negative emotions occur due to depression which is a byproduct. We always forget that we are a product of dysfunctional family. Low self esteem occurs in teens when they do not receive appreciation from any one, everyone only point out their mistakes. The only remedy for this is self suggestion. The teens are given a script and asked to repeat it from 7 to 21 times before sleeping. It is generally asked to be done before sleeping because it gets settled in mind much better at that time. Company also matters during this age, when your friend keeps on pointing towards your mistakes you actually get adhered to a comfort zone. You start thinking that he is my best friend and he points out my deficiency so that I can remove them. However, this is not the case. You should always make friends with people who appreciate you, say good about you and never point out your mistakes at least while you are a teenager. I know this could not be achieved in seconds but regular practice would definitely make you a more successful and better being. Just believe in yourself and the time will not be far when everyone around will look toward you as a model of inspiration. You will soon turn into a Leader.

Dr.Kumar Vishwas recited Mirza Ghalib Sher in one function. Kisi se agar milo kabhi to aise ke khud se najar mila sako.

The dawn of the new school year has brought with it a corps of fresh-faced ideas and initiatives aimed at making colleges and universities cleaner and greener. And, like any freshman class, they are all beaming with potential: Most will succeed, a handful will excel, and a few will end up disappointing their parents. The greening of academe is nothing new, but it seems to have taken root in a big way. Today, it’s not just about doing a few good, green things — recycling, buying green energy, building green buildings, and all the rest — and it’s not just about saving money or being seen as a good neighbor. It’s about being seen as a sustainability leader in order to attract students, funding, and media attention. As a result, in a growing number of Universities, “green” has become the Big Meme on Campus. But getting colleges and universities to make the grade as environmental leaders is no slam dunk. Like their corporate counterparts, schools face a variety of challenges and barriers, from a lack of top-level commitment, to institutional inertia, to a dearth of answers to the seemingly simple question “How good is ‘good enough’?”

Shoolini University being the first Bio-tech university in India is proud to boast of a green campus and socially responsible students. A leader in the field of energy conservation and recycling, Shoolini University teaches by example. The University is in the forefront of developing programs and policies that will ensure an environmentally friendly and fuel efficient environment. Shoolini University is passionate about reducing its ecological footprint.
With a strong environmental flavor to its courses already, it’s no wonder that Shoolini University is embracing the Green Campus label with such enthusiasm.
Special solar water heaters have been installed in the hostels, to maximize the ‘hot’ tap when hundreds of students are vying for a shower, and energy-saving light bulbs are standard. Working with the campus maintenance teams, the grounds staff takes note when energy is being wasted and is quick to find solutions.
Among the programs set up by Shoolini University is an education program, where the university students and teachers have created a gardening area made with recycled materials: “It’s not only teaching awareness,” says Prof. P. K. Khosla(Chairman – Shoolini University), “but understanding about environmental issues.”
Shoolini University green initiatives are a good example of how you can take leadership on the management level, and create a budget for improving issues. The students constantly work with various departments to implement energy saving program.
An average computer uses about 100 watts per hour while completely powered up. When kept on for a full year, that computer will send 750 pounds of carbon dioxide into the air or what is”the equivalent of driving 820 miles in the average, therefore by following simple step such as powering down the computer when students aren’t using them, the university saves operating costs and the environment.
Today’s students will lead business and all of the country to energy efficiency and reductions in greenhouse gas contributions not only because it saves money, a commodity not many have these days, but because it is the right thing to do. Shoolini University students are green because being green is mature, intelligent, responsible behavior and because this generation wants a healthy world waiting for their grand kids when they hit the college years.

360® is a full circle appraisal system. In this your appraisal is not done just on the basis of your work but views of your colleagues, subordinates, customers etc is also taken into consideration. In this type of appraisal system a questionnaire is given to all people involved in the process. The employee himself also fills the questionnaire and sends to HR department for review. For e.g.: If you call a mobile company’s customer care, you receive a questionnaire through sms after you disconnect the call asking for the feedback on quality of service provided. The companies providing home delivery of its product also send a questionnaire when you get something delivered at your home. The form contains questions related to performance of the delivery boy. On the basis of this the employee is given promotion or salary hike or may be some monetary incentive.

In today’s corporate world for the growth of company, effective communication and good quality management is of most importance. Performance appraisal not only improves communication within the organization but it also aids employee to portray his achievements in front of the management. One also gets a chance to know his/her shortcomings and other work related deficiencies which could help in initiation of a process of eradicating these deficiencies.

The process of 360® appraisal is purely transparent and employee does not sense partiality. This in turn enhances teamwork. Involving customers in the appraisal system also helps in improving production and operation management. The knowledge of short coming of an employee helps in implementing a training program for his improvement and promoting the better ones. This process is also known as multi source feedback or 360® profiling. It’s an organizational development tool. In normal appraisal system only reporting manager is involved but in 360® format colleagues, subordinates, customers etc are also involved. Actually due to its transparency this appraisal process is gaining recognition.

Some important points which should be considered are

Support of top management is important.

The confidence level of employee should be high.

The feedback form should have classified and organized space for mentioning requirements to improve performance.

There should be good coordination between senior and subordinates.

The appraisal process should be followed strictly as per organizational policy.

The advantages of 360® appraisal process are

It reveals the eligibility and capability of an employee which aids in strategy formulation for different departments.

Due to involvement of so many people there is no scope for partiality.

The identity of people providing feedback is not revealed hence there is no scope of conflicts.

Analysis of an employee is done on multiple aspects.

Employee’s need and achievements are revealed.

The disadvantage is that it takes time since it involves multiple people and also development of feedback form for different department takes time.

This appraisal system also helps management in recognizing one’s capabilities and hence he can be transferred to the particular department in which he would be able to perform better.

This appraisal system came into existence long back during World War II.

Office Politics as a Self Development Tool Strict Boss, colleagues using bad words at the back, non-cooperative subordinates etc. are common activities you will observe in any office. Office politics is a very old phenomenon but if you say that you want to stay away from it, this could be a wrong approach. Lot of HR experts believe that abstaining yourself from office politics could lead to slow progress of your career. There could be a possibility that your abilities are not revealed to its full extent and the success you receive is limited. You might end up getting more involved in office politics while trying to resist it. If you wish to deal with office politics in a constructive way then try assessing and understanding your organization culture. You have to ask some questions from your superiors. The questions could be like, does our company assesses the short/long term results of an employee’s performance, how is this assessment done, to what extent is risk tolerated, what is the decision making process that is followed etc. If your relation with your boss is not in tune, then try understanding his way of doing things a bit more. Keep a record of his communication skills and profile of the people in his network. Understanding that what type of proposals does he agrees to and what he refuses is most important. Try working on these things and very soon you will find that, you have become an important part of the organization. Planning is necessary to be a successful person. Think and decide for how long you want to stay in the particular organization and work accordingly. Try improving your public image during that period. This will definitely give you a weapon to combat office politics. Be prepared if someone asks you about your developments. Know the skill to praise yourself. Put your arguments confidently and support them with facts. Slowly you will realize that you have transformed into a better and successful Human Being. There is a famous saying that “There is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy in an organization”. One should always take office politics constructively as a source of improvement rather than making an issue out of it. In the initial 1 – 2 years of your career one should try learning as much as possible. Your first year should involve just hard work and you should try inculcating knowledge of multiple disciplines during coming years. So try improving yourself on daily basis and gradually open yourself to different aspect of your organization. Best of Luck for your career. Work hard. Have Fun
